eMELT® key feature #1, Maximizing productivity with eMELT®’s dockable build module

This is the first article in a series exploring the key features of Freemelt’s industrial E-PBF (Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion) machine, eMELT®. Through this series, we will explore eMELT®’s innovative features enabling improved quality and efficiency, making eMELT® the ideal choice for full-scale serial production. Today, we will dive into a feature never before seen in the AM (additive manufacturing) landscape – the dockable build module.

What is the dockable build module?

The dockable build module is a separate unit that consists of the build side of the machine, including both the build tank and the powder feeding system. The melt station, on the other hand, houses the beam side of the machine. This modular design allows for an efficient workflow. By using an additional build module, the entire turnaround process can be parallelized, enabling one extra build module to serve multiple melt stations and build modules in a staggered operation.

This docking concept allows you to seamlessly switch from one production cycle to the next, minimizing dead time between builds.

Faster turnaround enabling increased productivity

Switching between builds is no longer a bottleneck. With eMELT®, the time required to swap the build module, achieve process vacuum, and start a new build is reduced to just 20 minutes. Watch this video to see the dockable build module in operation: eMELT® docking sequence

eMELT®’s optimized workflow ensures that your production line keeps moving with minimal interruptions and downtime, significantly increasing overall productivity.
